SHIPPING DETAILS

If you place an order with us, you’ll receive an order confirmation email with detailed shipping instructions, including our studio address. If you’re curious, though, instructions for each type of inclusion are listed here!

**DO NOT request a signature upon delivery. If our office is closed, we have a safe drop box for milk/inclusion deliveries. If you request a signature upon delivery and we are not in the office, we will not receive your shipment!

We update our system about 2-3 times per week and you'll receive an email confirming that your milk/inclusions have been unboxed and safely stored. Please keep the tracking information on your milk shipment. Expect your finished piece(s) to ship between 8 and 12 weeks after we receive your milk and/or inclusions for most jewelry pieces, and 12-15 weeks for rings, and oftentimes sooner! You will receive an email notification when your order ships with tracking information.

PLEASE do not send any instructions/order changes/address changes in your package! Any changes or instructions/edits to your order MUST be emailed to us at hello@milkandhoney.jewelry.

IMPORTANT NOTE: Please do NOT send us the very last of any inclusions. Always save some at home, just in case mail gets lost, or breast milk molds. It’s very, very rare, but can be devastating for such precious and irreplaceable pieces. Additionally, we do not return any unused or preserved milk back to the customer.

We cannot accept milk/inclusions until you’ve placed an order.

BREAST MILK OR FORMULA

**Please send 15ml of breastmilk as soon as you can (so you don’t forget!). Measure your milk in a measuring cup or bottle. We've found that the storage bags are often inaccurate. Sending more than 15ml is *not* necessary, even if you've ordered more than one piece.  Shipping your milk in breastmilk storage bags (as described below) is important.  Brand new, sealed storage bags are sterile, preventing bacteria growth.  Bottles and Ziploc bags are not sterile, and can produce mold.  If you have less than 15 ml, or ONLY have 15ml, reply to this email to see what your best options are—we can still figure it out!  We do not want you to send your last drops of milk.

**The milk does not need to be kept cold and it can be old, non-edible milk that has been out too long or in the freezer too long--but we cannot accept milk that has mold. Thaw the milk first, if it has been frozen.  Put the milk in a new breastmilk storage bag, being careful not to touch the inside of the bag with your fingers, making sure it's sealed tightly, and then place that milk in another breast milk storage bag, also sealed tightly. Place that bag in a heavy duty or freezer ziploc bag, also sealed tightly, and LABELED WITH YOUR FULL NAME AND ORDER NUMBER (above).

LOCK OF HAIR

If you're shipping hair, place a small lock on a paper towel, keeping the lock together as much as possible. (It may be helpful to use a small rubber band to section off a piece of hair then cut just above the rubber band, so the lock is held together as you cut it.) We don't need much, 15-20 strands about an inch or two long is usually sufficient. Carefully fold the paper towel around the lock of hair a few times, keeping the lock together. Place inside a ziplock style bag that has been labeled with your name and order number. It is also helpful to add your child's name to the bag (EX: Charlotte's hair).

PLACENTA

If you're shipping dehydrated and ground placenta, send about a teaspoon worth (or about 2 capsules). Place in a plastic baggie, labeled with "placenta powder", your name, and your order #.

FLOWERS

If you're shipping flowers, *please* be sure the petals are completely dried before mailing. If they are not, they may develop mold in transit and will be unusable.  Double bag in a plastic Ziploc baggie. Label with your name and order #.

CREMATION ASHES

If you'll be shipping cremation ashes, we don't need much. Please place about 1-2 teaspoons in a small plastic baggie and double or triple bag, making sure that all bags are sealed tightly. Label with your order # and name. We will *always* treat your ashes with dignity, care, respect, and love; and will always return any unused ashes to you along with your jewelry.

UMBILICAL CORD

If you’re shipping your baby’s umbilical cord stump, please grind it before shipping.  Make sure it’s completely dry first, and then grind. You can use a food processor, blender, coffee grinder, Magic Bullet/Nutribullet, or mortar and pestle.  Please double or triple bag in a Ziploc or small baggie.  Label baggie with your name and order #.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

I don’t have anymore breastmilk storage bags. Can I send my breastmilk another way?

NO. We really want you to use a new breastmilk storage bag to send your breastmilk to us. We know that if you are at the end of your breastfeeding journey, you don’t really want to purchase a new box of these, but breastmilk storage bags are sterile and made for storing breastmilk and preventing leaks. They help prevent mold and leaks during shipping. Bottles and containers are more likely to burst or leak during shipping, and we really don’t want your precious milk to be moldy or leaked out when we open your inclusion shipment.

(We made a blog listing our favorite breastmilk storage bags. Check it out!)

Do I need to ship my milk overnight or put an ice pack in the box?

NO. It is not necessary to ship your milk overnight or to include an ice pack in the box. We do not unbox milk daily, so even if you ship it overnight, we may not get to it right away. Including an ice pack will actually just make a mess of things as the ice pack melts during shipping, so please do not include one.

Does it matter what carrier service I use to ship my breastmilk?

NO. We honestly do not care which carrier or shipping method you choose, so you can pick the one you trust the most and the option that fits your budget. All milk will be sour, but that’s OK! We can use it! Just follow the shipping instructions to prevent mold and leaks and all should be well!

I ordered more than one piece, do I need to send more than one batch of milk?

NO. 15 ml of milk is ALL we ask for regardless of what piece you order from our collection or even how many pieces! You do not need to send 15 ml of milk for each piece. Each batch of preserved milk is enough to make approximately 12-15 pieces of jewelry (depending on which pieces you order).

I would like to order more jewelry in the future, can I send in more than 15ml now and you keep it on file?

Please don’t. We do not save your milk in liquid form. If you send more than the requested amount, we will not preserve “extra” or save the extra milk. We simply do not have the space to save milk in liquid form, so sending more is unnecessary and any leftover milk after the milk has been preserved will be tossed. We hate tossing milk, so please don’t send more than what is needed. Again, each batch (15ml) of preserved milk is enough to make between 12 and 15 pieces of jewelry.
